This was a bit different and good experience for me; I'm so used to photographing people who are completely comfortable in front of the camera, and much as Louise is used to me sticking a camera in her face, for more formal photos I completely understand that many people may be worried about how they look in photographs.

These are pre-wedding photos for Louise and Tim, who are getting married next month. It's lovely to see a couple who seem to complement eachothers personalities so well and seem so genuinely happy together (:

Louise and I have been friends since we were 4, it's kind of weird and scary when all your friends are getting married and/or having kids :/

I wish them loads of happiness and am very (pathologically?) excited about being a bridesmaid (:

I've been really bad at updating this recently, although only because I am busy, which is good!

So this is just a quick "Hi, I still exist" type post.

A couple of previews from a recent shoot loosely based on the biblical story of Salome.

I am not remotely religious and treat any biblical story as myth, but upon suggestion of the theme I found it really interesting, both aesthetically and in terms of general representation of power relations between men and women.

The absolutely stunning clothes worn by Emilia are by Joanne Fleming. Her Aubrey Beardsley (who illustrated Oscar Wilde's play of Salome) inspired dress and coat are currently on display at Brighton Museum for the month as a part of Brighton fashion week.

MGEDT Exhibition

A quick post to say that the photographs I worked on with MGEDT are currently up at Brighton Jubilee Library until 15th April.

Please do share and forward to people; it really is of vital importance as males find it so much harder to access specialist treatment in this area as it is, and with NHS and various local health and social services being cut back, this is only likely to get worse. Men Get Eating Disorders Too aims to provide the support and understanding that males experiencing eating disorders are unlikely to find elsewhere.

It is a small exhibition, but I'd hope that it can open people's eyes to the fact that eating disorders can affect anyone, and are primarily psychological with sometimes severe physical health implications. How "ill" someone looks is not indicative of how severe their disorder is, and I really feel health professionals need to look into this to assess the specialist help that people may need, particularly for men, for whom a diagnosis of an eating disorder may at first seem unlikely.

I really do hope that this can help, even a small amount of people. If you are nearby, please do drop in and pick up a few leaflets and posters to distribute to local services in your area.

Leah is a Royal Ballet trained dancer, and a model, living in London.

I don't want to write too much about this project just yet until I've worked out where I'm going with it, but it's something really enjoyable to be working on - just working with and getting to know people as people, and not coming with all these preconceived ideas about how the photos ought to look. The sixteen year old girls I've met so far have been really lovely, and kind of inspiring - it sometimes seems that the media and government would have all young people down as criminals, teenage parents, etc etc etc, but the majority, like Leah, Mpho and Nyane (and I expect many of the other girls I photograph in the coming months) are fantastic people, ambitious and with an idea of where they're going in life.

Anyway, thank you to Leah for wondering around Regent's Park with me in the freezing cold!

Quick Update

This is just a little update to say I'm having some internet problems, so I apologise if I am slow at getting back to anyone and for lack of website updates etc.

It's difficult to upload photos anywhere, here are a few from a test with Chris Arundel at Storm Models (hair and makeup artist Monica Rossi). These are a few I shot on film as I really miss using my Mamiya, it's just so expensive to process, print etc. I'm thinking of selling it as, much as I love the camera, I don't get enough use out of it (and being vegan I shouldn't really use film anyhow). It's a Mamiya 645 super with 80mm f2.8 lens - if anyone wants to make me an offer (£400+) then please feel free to do so. As far as I know there are no plans to make a digital back for it, but obviously compatible polaroid backs can be used.

I'm also selling a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EFS for Canon (NON full frame), a Canon 430ex speedlite and a Sigma 50-150mm f.28 EFS for Canon (again, non full-frame). Please make an offer for any if interested.

Photographs from a project I've been working on with Men Get Eating Disorders Too. Founded by Sam Thomas a couple of years ago, the organisation highlights the often unacknowledged prevalence of eating disorders in men and provides a supportive network for people to share their experiences.

The project aims to dispel the myth that eating disorders only affect a very narrow section of the population, i.e. adolescent females. Eating disorders can and do affect people of either gender and of any age, class, ethnicity, sexuality and so on. Services and support are far more difficult to access for male sufferers, whether due to the increased stigma, or actual lack of provision. The work being done by MGEDT aims to change this.

My aim for these photographs is for the portraits to be of people, not stereotypically sensationalised images of the physical symptoms of eating disorders. Eating disorders are first and foremost psychological disorders and it's potentially very damaging to use imagery of people at their most physically unwell. How someone looks is not necessarily an indicator of the complexity of their disorder.

Top-bottom: Si, Nigel, Matthew, Rob, Sam (founder of MGEDT). All have suffered with an eating disorder - some have recovered whilst others still struggle with their issues. All are actively doing something to help others with similar issues and are really inspiring individuals.
